Cyclists’ service areas for Chronovélo network in Grenoble
- 21 cyclists’ service area
Since 2017, as part of the development of Grenoble’s Chronovélo network, Altinnova has designed, manufactured and installed tailor-made cyclists’ service areas.
Each site features a range of facilities developed by Altinnova – the ALTAO® Pump inflation station, seating, bike racks and signage – to provide cyclists with a fully accessible service point and encourage everyday cycling.
Acting as genuine cycle service areas, they help to make journeys more enjoyable, more convenient and safer in the heart of Grenoble Alpes Métropole.

A cycle service area designed to meet cyclists’ needs
Each service area has been designed to meet the needs of cyclists on both daily commutes and leisure rides. Located along the main cycle routes, these cyclists’ service areas offer cyclists a dedicated space to take a break, check their route or carry out minor maintenance tasks.
The built-in features include, in particular:
- a bench where cyclists can take a break;
- a map of the Chronovélo network to help you find your way and plan the rest of your route;
- a self-service ALTAO® Pump bicycle tyre inflation station to maintain optimum tyre pressure;
- a support stand to stabilise the bike whilst inflating the tyres or making minor adjustments;
- easily recognisable signage, integrated into the network’s visual identity.
By bringing together several services in a single space, these facilities improve user comfort whilst enhancing the appeal of the cycle network.
Bespoke street furniture that blends seamlessly into the public space
These cyclists’ service areas have been designed specifically to blend into the city’s environment.
Their contemporary design, their iconic yellow colour and their location close to cycle paths ensure excellent visibility.
Designed and manufactured by Altinnova, these bespoke street furniture items prioritise robustness, durability and ease of use.
The materials selected and their design enable them to withstand heavy use, the elements and the demands of public spaces, whilst minimising maintenance requirements.
This project demonstrates our expertise in designing bespoke cycling furniture that meets the needs of local authorities.
Why set up a cycle service area?
Cycle service areas are an essential complement to cycle paths and greenways.
They enable you to:
- to improve the experience for cyclists;
- to encourage cycling as part of everyday life;
- to make minor maintenance tasks easier with a bicycle pump station;
- to provide a place to rest and access information;
- to promote a local authority’s cycling infrastructure.
By providing accessible self-service facilities, local authorities promote more comfortable travel and enhance the appeal of their cycle network.

Do you have a cycle infrastructure project?
Would you like to set up a cyclists’ service areas or a bike pump station, or design bespoke cycle facilities for your local authority or site?
The Altinnova teams support you every step of the way, from the initial planning of your project through to the manufacture and installation of equipment tailored to your needs.

A cycle service point allows cyclists to take a break, consult a map, pump up their tyres and carry out minor maintenance tasks. It enhances the comfort of cycling and complements existing cycling infrastructure.
Proper tyre pressure improves comfort, performance and safety for cyclists. A tyre-inflation station accessible to all encourages regular cycling and reduces minor incidents caused by under-inflation.
Depending on the local authority’s needs, a service area may include a tyre pump, a repair station, cycle racks, a charging point for electric bikes, a drinking water fountain, a bench, an information point or signage.
