In response to the growing popularity of active mobility and the need to facilitate intermodality, Fontainebleau-Avon station has equipped itself with a cycle parking facility commensurate with its regional role. Altinnova, a recognised specialist in secure cycle parking solutions and made-to-measure cycle facilities, deployed its expertise by installing and refitting several ALTAO® Spacio secure cycle shelters, as well as open shelters.
This project illustrates not only the desire of local authorities to meet the growing needs of cyclists, but also Altinnova ‘s ability to design and build complex technical projects in high-traffic environments.
A major project for Fontainebleau – Avon station
Back in 2014, Altinnova had already equipped Fontainebleau-Avon station with two secure cycle shelters with a total capacity of 112 spaces, as well as an open shelter housing 28 bikes thanks to 14 hoops. Ten years on, the urban community wanted to take things a step further by increasing the capacity of its cycle parking facilities in response to rising passenger numbers.
The particularity of this project lay in the desire to reuse the existing shelters by moving them to a new location, while installing two new shelters to guarantee continuity of service for users.
The strategy adopted was clear: first install the new shelters to maintain the supply of parking, before dismantling and reassembling the shelters already in place. This choice ensured a smooth transition and never penalised cyclists.
Today, the station has 135 spaces in secure bicycle shelters and 132 spaces in open shelters, giving a total capacity of 267 bicycles.

The heart of the project is the installation of the ALTAO® Spacio secure shelter, Altinnova’s benchmark solution for secure cycle parking at stations. Designed to offer optimum protection and great robustness, this shelter is accompanied by equipment specifically chosen to maximise the ergonomics and safety of cyclists.

- 1 open shelter with 20 Urban A arch
This deployment is a perfect illustration of Altinnova’s ability to combine the intelligent re-use of existing equipment with the integration of new technical solutions. It is also a demonstration of the durability of our shelters over time: a strong asset for local authorities!
