Renovation of the bicycle park at Saint-Germain-en-Laye station

Altinnova has just renovated and transformed the former largest bike park in the Paris region, located at Saint-Germain-en-Laye RER A station. The new car park now offers a total of 475 spaces for all types of bikes (urban, sports, cargo, electric-assist, longtails, etc.).

There are now 419 spaces in a secure area accessible by subscription, and 59 spaces available free of charge. Check out the new look below!

An emblematic project for Ile-de-France mobility

Altinnova, France’s leading manufacturer of equipment for cycle facilities, has worked with Transdev and all the regional players responsible for mobility to thoroughly modernise the cycle park at Saint-Germain-en-Laye RER A station.

For years, this parking area, which opened in 2011, was the largest in the Île-de-France region. But over time, it became unhealthy and was criticised by cyclists for theft, damage and the presence of pigeons…

This is why Altinnova designed this renovation project and manufactured the equipment installed. The project was financed by Île-de-France Mobilités, operated by Transdev – Boucle des Lys and managed using Diwio^® solutions (access control, camera & display) to respond to the growth in cycling and improve the user experience.

2 access gates to facilitate entry and exit, facilities and spaces adapted to different types of bikes, visible and colourful signage, additional service facilities, real-time display of available spaces… these are just some of the innovations designed to make life easier for cyclists.

A controlled renovation project

To enable users to continue using their bikes to catch the RER during the conversion works, which lasted around 4 months, a temporary cycle park was built on rue de la Surintendance, with 17 ALTAO^® Mobile temporary parking racks (204 spaces).

Best practice and proven solutions

Prior to the works, a notice was distributed and posted to inform cyclists that their bicycles would have to be removed as the premises would no longer be accessible. However, this communication also provided a solution by specifying that a temporary car park would be set up during this transitional period.

This parking area uses tried and tested equipment. In fact, this type of arch is identical to those used to create more than 15,000 spaces installed in the many ephemeral cycle parks for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games!

Thanks to this initiative, the mix of active mobility + public transport has been perpetuated to facilitate intermodality.

The secure area is equipped with video protection to enhance the safety of the bicycles. It is also managed using Diwio^® secure cycle parking operating solutions (access control with multi-support readers + cameras for video counting of spaces and detection of suction cups + display panel showing available spaces in real time), which already equip other cycle parking facilities in the Île-de-France Mobilités network:
