The Velostation at Lyon Part-Dieu train station

Lyon
  • 1500 secure bike spaces
  • 2400 m² on 2 floors

At the heart of Lyon’s dynamic Part-Dieu district, a major project has been launched beneath the new Place basse Béraudier: the Lyon Part-Dieu train station cycle park. Now the largest secure bike parking facility in France!

Designed to meet the growing needs of urban cyclists, this infrastructure is part of an ambitious policy to promote active mobility and intermodality. Altinnova, a French specialist in equipment for cycling facilities, played a key role in the development of this key area of Lyon’s Part-Dieu district.

A bike station to boost active mobility in Lyon

The recently redeveloped Place Béraudier has become a real mobility hub, integrating train, metro, tram and now a space truly dedicated to cyclists. This Velostation, located at the heart of the square, offers an impressive capacity of over 1,500 secure cycle spaces, spread over two levels accessible via a monumental ramp.

This architectural project aims to facilitate intermodality by enabling the many users to easily combine cycling and public transport, thereby reducing the carbon footprint of urban travel. The Velo-Station now offers a closed space for all types of cyclists (regulars, occasional riders, walkers, bike-taxi drivers, etc.) and all types of bikes(standard, recumbent, cargo, electric, two-wheeled, sports, three-wheeled, mountain bikes, etc.).

An infrastructure designed for all types of bikes

One of the great assets of the Velostation at Lyon Part-Dieu station is its ability to accommodate a wide range of cycling practices. Thanks to Altinnova’s expertise, the different areas combine ergonomics, safety and user comfort, and have been designed for each type of bicycle.

Standard bike zone: high-performance racks for classic bikes

This main zone accounts for the majority of parking spaces and is intended for conventional bicycles.

It is equipped with Optima V10 double-decker cycle racks, available in single and double-sided versions, optimising space management while maintaining a high level of user comfort.

Their design makes hooking them up easy and intuitive, with a solid locking point for the frame and wheel, ideal for personal locks.

These bicycle parking facilities are robust, durable and suitable for intensive use: perfect, therefore, for a busy hub like this Lyon station.

Zone for large bicycles: accommodating a diversity of sizes

Designed for longtails, wide electric bikes and models with accessories at the front or rear, this area is an example of intelligent adaptation.

This choice avoids the congestion and conflicts of use often seen in poorly designed car parks.

Altinnova has installed a long row of ALTAO® Parco alternating-height cycle racks, renowned for their ability to accommodate unconventional bikes.

These racks guarantee enhanced stability and the possibility of securing bicycles in non-standard sizes, while maintaining fluid accessibility.

Zone for cargo bikes and three-wheelers: sturdy, specially adapted hoops

Altinnova has thought of the users of cargo bikes, two-wheelers, three-wheelers and other utility bikes, which are becoming increasingly common in towns and cities, especially in a strong urban commercial area.

They also offer the option of securing the frame at the bottom, a feature appreciated by professionals and families who use these models on a daily basis.

To meet their specific needs, the Vélostation incorporates bicycle racks for cargo bikes.

These hoops are wider, lower and extremely robust, making it possible to secure these often heavy and bulky bicycles effectively.

Organised into specialised zones and clearly identified by simple, effective signage, the Lyon Part-Dieu Velostation guarantees fluid, inclusive and safe parking for all cyclists. It is this attention to every type of bicycle that makes this extraordinary infrastructure a benchmark in cycling facilities.

Comprehensive services for cyclists

In addition to parking facilities, the Lyon Part-Dieu Cycle Station also boasts a comprehensive range of services designed to make life easier for urban cyclists. These facilities, designed and built by Altinnova, enhance the usefulness of the infrastructure by offering autonomy, safety and comfort to everyday users.

Self-service repair stations

Because bicycle maintenance is essential for smooth, safe daily mobility, the Vélostation incorporates two of Altinnova’s flagship facilities:

  • The ALTAO® Fix bike repair totem: this allows cyclists to carry out major repairs or adjustments themselves (brakes, saddle, derailleur, etc.) thanks to a set of integrated tools.
  • The ALTAO® Fix’Air bike repair and inflation station: this is complemented by an integrated high-pressure inflation system and a repair stand, ideal for easy bike handling.

These stations are designed to withstand intensive use and are designed, manufactured and assembled in France. A registered Altinnova model, these stations offer a robust design and simplified maintenance.

Inflating stations for a well-inflated ride

The right tyre pressure is a key factor in ensuring safe and comfortable cycling.

  • The Vélostation is equipped with ALTAO® Pump bicycle inflation stations , so you can inflate your tyres efficiently on your own.
  • These pumps are compatible with all types of valves and are installed in strategic locations so that they remain accessible without impeding traffic flow.

This immediate accessibility is particularly useful for cyclists in transit or connecting with public transport or trains. This inflation solution is in addition to that offered by the ALTAO® T’Pump station on the ALTAO® Fix’Air terminal.

Secure lockers for personal belongings

Altinnova has also integrated secure storage solutions, essential for long-term parking or for those who want to leave accessories on site:

  • Storage lockers for cyclists provide a safe place to store helmets, bags, rain gear or a change of clothes.
  • Specific lockers for scooters and electric scooters have also been added, demonstrating Altinnova’s openness and expertise in all forms of soft mobility.

This storage helps to relieve congestion around bicycles, making parking areas clearer and safer.

With these additional facilities, Altinnova is transforming the Lyon Part-Dieu Bike Station into a genuine service centre for cyclists, going beyond the simple role of a car park. Repairs, maintenance, storage… everything has been designed to promote user autonomy and peace of mind, while promoting French expertise focused on quality and innovation!
